DG ARTS PRESENTS: THE RHYTHM OF DESIGN
An Ongoing Educational & Social Series
Join us for a fascinating exploration of pattern, symbolism, and artistic expression in a presentation that is part of our richly varied and thoughtfully curated social series, bringing together learning, visual discovery, history, and culture. This is the first installment of our new webinar series: The Rhythm of Design.
Our distinguished speaker, Perry Sayles, Architectural Historian, Interior Designer, and Photographer, has traveled extensively throughout the world photographing rare historic buildings, remarkable landscapes, and enduring architectural treasures. Through years of firsthand study, he has closely examined the extraordinary structures that have survived for centuries, uncovering not only the secrets of their preservation but also the artistic and architectural innovations that transformed the course of history.
Drawing upon his extensive travels and research, Mr. Sayles will share the stories behind these enduring achievements, revealing how they were realized and how they profoundly influenced the evolution of art, architecture, and design.
In this opening presentation, we will explore the fascinating world of patterns and design, beginning with the exquisite geometric traditions of Islamic art. Together, we will examine their beauty, mathematical precision, and the rich symbolic meanings woven into their forms. As the series unfolds, we will discover how patterns, motifs, and design principles have shaped cultures, conveyed ideas, and enriched the visual language of civilizations throughout history.

This is the first installment of our new webinar series: The Rhythm of Design.
Our distinguished speaker, Perry Sayles, Architectural Historian, Interior Designer, and Photographer, draws upon extensive international travel and decades of visual research documenting rare historic architecture, landscapes, and enduring artistic traditions. We will examine how mathematical precision, visual rhythm, and symbolic meaning converge to create one of the most sophisticated design languages in history—and how these principles continue to influence art, architecture, and design today.
