Vida Americana: Mexican Muralists Remake American Art, 1925-1945/The Whitney Museum

Towards the end of the Mexican Revolution, the country experienced a radical new relationship as artists began to comment on the social injustices through public art. Some of the notable artists that rose up through this period were Diego Rivera, Frieda Khalo, Jose Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros who also spent time in the United States and inspired many American artists to create similar narratives about American history and use their art to change economic and social injustices.

This exhibition shows the influences on well known American artists including Jackson Pollock, Philip Guston, Edward Weston, Paul Strand, Thomas Hart Benton and Georgia O’Keefe and includes, wall murals, paintings, photographs and Film.
